At Meridian we think of your quartz worktops are an investment. All our quartz are sourced from the finest suppliers across Europe.

They are all durable, non-porous and very long lasting – but not indestructible! Something as simple as cleaning can have negative effects to your worktops. Keep reading to see our top tips for cleaning your work surface!

How often should I clean my work top?

Although quartz is low maintenance, we advise cleaning these daily. Whether you have made a sandwich or full Sunday roast prevention is always the best form of protection! It is always important spillages are cleaned up straight away to avoid any stains. We would advise cleaning the tops with warm water and a touch of surface cleaner or anti-bac detergent and a soft cloth. Most general cleaners should do the job! However, it’s important not to use anything too acidic!

If general daily cleaning isn’t carried out there may be a build-up and a deep clean may be needed.

What if stains DO occur?

We expect you to get use out of your worktops, particularly in your kitchen! Unfortunately, accident do occur, and staining can happen. As quartz is non-porous staining, in most cases, can be removed.

To remove a build up or stains apply alcohol to a soft cloth. From here you should rub the stain for roughly 20 seconds. From here we advise cleaning the surface with soapy water. You can also buy general work surfaces cleaner – but again make sure this isn’t too acidic!

If in doubt, feel free to give us a ring and we can talk you through this. If in doubt, Meridian sells our own cleaner and we’d happily get this posted out to you!

There are certain things you should always think about when cleaning or using your quartz!

Dos and don’t quartz cleaning:

DO

  • Clean work surfaces after every / daily use – this will ensure build up and staining is less likely to occur.
  • Remove waste as quickly as possible – prevention is the best form of protection! Don’t wait until it is too late!
  • Check before using products – if you have any questions, please get in touch. We’re only a phone call away and want to ensure your surfaces are cared for correctly!
  • Protect the surface – if you think something may damage the surface – it’s better to be safe than sorry!

DON’T

  • Use strong chemical products when cleaning – most notably acidic products can be detrimental when cleaning. Always check the make up of your cleaner.
  • Place direct heat on your quartz – placing hot pots and pans on your surface can expand the make up of the quartz. This can lead to large discolouring and will not be covered in any warranty
  • Cut directly on to quartz – always use a chopping board. Need one? We can help you with that!
  • Assume quartz is indestructible – it is one of the most hardwearing materials in the world – but still needs maintenance.
